SPARQ
2022 Spring

UI Design
Brand Identity Design
Instructed By: Michael Neal

SPARQ is a social platform that encourages designers from different creative fields to form groups with each other and get inspiration through different perspectives. Through SPARQ, designers are encouraged to seek design groups with various topics and themes. By creating their unique creative partner circle, SPARQ helps designers better understand themselves in their creative careers and develop their unique artistic styles.

The name SPARQ comes from the word SPARK, which represents flame, lighting, sudden ideas, and friction or connection between two or more people. By emphasizing the uniqueness of each designer's personality, the letter K is switched by Q.
Based on Adobe Creative’s creative types test, I re-created eight characters standing for the eight designer personalities.   As a crucial step, those SPARQ types set the foundation for designers to know themselves deeply and assist them to reach out others and groups who can help them grow.

I took some dating APPs as a starting point and strengthened the community aspect by encouraging designers to seek the groups with different topics and themes.
Before you enter the community, you will be ask to upload your projects and take a SPARQ type test to see your strengths and weaknesses, and who can collaborate with you.

In groups, designer could either give feedback on personal work, learn a new trick, or just gossip about everything associated with creativity.
SPARQ allows designers to find partners to participate in exhibitions, workshops, or design competitions. You can sign up immediately and hang out with friends.

Moreover, you and your friends can also share how things are going at the moment. It could be places you visited, a song you listen to all the time, or the new street art you checked out.
Using the web version of our community, group members could build mood boards, share files and modify designs that other members have made. Faster feedback and more immediate actions allow designers to not only make friends with each other, but also collaborate better.
Inspired by the Memphis Group art style, the distorted, uneven line illustrations are the main art direction for the logo mark and graphic elements.
Those lines connect designers like a net, while the off-center treatment adds playfulness, curiosity, and enthusiasm, encouraging designers to step out of their comfort zone.

The SPARQ brand attributions are Inclusive, Exploratory, Innovative, and Playful. Based on those attributions and mood board I picked up three as the focused colors. Orange is the main brand color, and yellow and blue would appear on SPARQ Types character design.
By matching the brand’s attributes, illustration style, and color palette, PP Pangram Sans Rounded is set as the main typeface. It has a sense of inclusion and playfulness. The body text typeface is Circular, and it fits well with all elements.
By forming their unique creative circle, SPARQ helps designers to better understand themselves in their creative careers and develop their unique artistic expression. Ultimately, a more diversified design environment will be created.
